Published in the Sun Herald, Biloxi, MS - August 16, 2000To the Editor: The Interfaith Alliance (TIA) of Mississippi believes the selection of Senator Lieberman by Vice-President Al Gore is a healthy sign of how our nation is embracing our pluralism. TIA promotes civility and tolerance, mutual respect and cooperation in our diverse society. TIA of Mississippi is part of a clergy-network of local Alliances in 38 states. Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy, TIA's national executive director and a Baptist minister, has stated that Vice-President Gore's "decision is a sign that our nation is maturing, we are less homogeneous, much more religiously pluralistic, and we are learning how to live in a comuntiy where the religions of the world have come next door." As a national non-partisan grassroots organization with members drawn from many faith traditions, TIA is dedicated to promoting the positive and healing role of religion in the life of our nation and our community.
