The Mississippi Chapter of The Interfaith Alliance sponsored the annual Stop the Hate Vigil on October 4, 2001. TIA members and members of the community gathered at sunset on the beach in Bay St. Louis in a show of solidarity. They circled around a bonfire with candles and shared prayers of hope from each faith represented. It was an encouraging event which held even more meaning in light of the historic events of September 11th.
After prayers were said a song was sung by all present. Then local bongo
drummers beat as the sun went down over the Gulf of Mexico.
